Electro-Harmonix Blurst Modulated Filter Effects Pedal

Synth-style filter modulation may not be for everybody, but if you enjoy funky filter sweeps or simply want to explore new avenues to enhance your guitar effects, then you're going to love the Electro-Harmonix Blurst modulated filter pedal. The Blurst follows the tried-and-true modulated filter formula used by countless synthesizers: you start with a variable resonant filter — usually a lowpass filter like the one featured in this pedal — and then modulate the filter cutoff point with an LFO (low-frequency oscillator). The results can be exceptionally stunning, especially when you combine the Blurst with other effects.

A lowpass kills frequencies above a cutoff point but not those below it, literally letting lows pass through it while filtering out highs. Resonance is a harmonic boost that bumps up the frequencies right around the cutoff point. You can control how dramatic this boost is via the Blurst's resonance control, subduing it entirely or creating a hard stab to create an effect similar to a stalled wah-wah.

The "modulated" part of this filter has to do with how you control the filter cutoff point. On its own, the Blurst uses its internal LFO to sweep the lowpass filter's cutoff point between a frequency range you can specify via the Range knob. You can set the speed of the sweep via the Rate knob, and the Shape mini toggle lets you choose from back and forth, upward, or downward filter motion. A tap tempo footswitch allows you to sync the LFO to the beat, ensuring that it pulses in time with your music, and letting the LFO run freely creates a fun asynchronous sweeping effect that's not entirely dissimilar to a phaser.

Got an expression pedal handy? If not, you may want to pick one of those up as well, because an expression pedal can add dimensions of additional effects to the Blurst. There are three settings for the Blurst's expression mode: Range, Rate, and Filter. By setting the range on the fly, you can extend the phaser-style sweeping effect. For instance, you may want to crank it up for rhythm parts but pull it back to tighten up your leads. Controlling the rate lets you pull off rotary-cabinet-style ramp-up effects or sheer chaos, depending on how hard you tilt your expression pedal. Love the wah-wah-like quality of your Blurst? Just turn down the range and use your expression pedal to sweep the filter manually.

There are tons of great ways to use the range of effects you can get out of the Blurst in your guitar rig. On its own, it can add spice to a clean tone, but it's also a great companion for other effects. Toss it on a dirty channel or inline with your favorite distortion box, and you'll get sweeping accents that don't blur your tone the way a phaser, flanger, or chorus does. But you can also combine it with another modulation effect to get intricate counter-point sweeps. Finally, if you totally crank the rate, you'll achieve something akin to frequency modulation (FM) synthesis, totally transforming your guitar tone.

First up, it's nice to see a simple modulated resonant filter on something other than a synthesizer. Kudos to EHX for that. With its extended range control, you'll love how the Blurst can spice up your bass rig. Pro tip: if you dig fuzz bass, then don't even think about it — grab one of these pedals and never look back. All of that said, there's no reason at all you can't stick a Blurst (or two) on your synthesizer's output. Creative keyboard players have long adopted stompboxes to enhance their tones, and this one is a no-brainer. Basically, it's an LFO-controlled lowpass filter in a stomp box, which is a simply wonderful tool to have in your collection.

FEATURES:
• An LFO-modulated, variable-resonance lowpass filter in a stompbox
• Create dramatic frequency sweeps with sharp resonant peaks
• Variable Resonance control lets you control the frequency boost around the filter cutoff
• Set the speed of the LFO with the Rate knob or sync it to the tempo with the Tap footswitch
• Tap Divide settings let you subdivide the rate within the set temp for advanced rhythmical effects
• Dial in the range of the frequency sweeps with the Range control and use the Shape to adjust the waveform style
• Mix the filter into your tone via the Blend knob to protect some of your tone from extreme sweep ranges
• Plug in an expression pedal to add extra dimension via direct Range, Rate, and filter frequency control
• A truly amazing effect on its own, but also a great way to get more out of the effects you already have
• A particularly good addition to any of Electro-Harmonix's keyboard-emulation pedals or POG models
• Great for guitar, bass, keyboards, and anything else you feel like plugging into it

At times it has been somewhat repetitive and tedious to read
Format: Hardcover
One of the earliest books in Christianity, The Shepherd of Hermas was probably written around 140AD, and avidly read for the first few hundred years. Likely its failure to become one of the recognized books of the Canon (Bible) had something to do with its fall-off in popularity. Today, while an Apocryphal book from the age of Apostolic Fathers, it seems arcane, and somewhat desultory. Nevertheless, one can see this book as a vision, a dream, or even an attempt to describe elements of purgatory. Both Latin and Greek copies, at least in part have been found, there are also parts missing which make reading it a bit of a challenge. At times it has been somewhat repetitive and tedious to read. I read the edition and translation from the Greek by Bart D. Ehrman: "The Apostolic Fathers Vol. II" from the Loeb Classical Library. The original author was claimed by some to be the brother of Pope Pius I. It is interesting to have a view into what the Council Fathers were looking at when deciding what to add to the Canon, and what not to add. The probings by our minds, between the dark and the daylight, are not so different a few thousand years later. How is God going to judge me and my sins? What must I do to prepare? What is within my ability and what is not? And where do I fit in His Kingdom?

NOT JUST FOR EASTER
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
I ordered this book firstly because it talks about the Bible. It's meant for someone who wants to read something meaningful in the weeks leading up to Easter. It’s a thoughtful, well-written devotional that can help you to reflect on the word of God and the significance of Christ’s death and resurrection. The best thing about this book is that it’s designed as a 30-day reading plan, and that makes it easy to incorporate into your daily routine. Each day’s reading is only about one and 3/4 of a page - short enough to fit into a busy schedule, but each devotional is still meaningful. I think it's designed like that so you can do a quick reading, like inthe morning when you get up and have your morning tea, or when you're in bed at night. It also gives you something to reflect on throughout the day. The devotionals don't just focus on Easter, it's based on passages throughout the Bible. It shows you how scriptures ultimately lead to the resurrection of Jesus Christ. All the way from Genesis to Revelation, it defines how God's plan of redemption through the cross has been laid out for years, long before Jesus's birth (and after his death and resurrection). Each devotional has reflection questions to make you think about what you read, along with a prayer. This would be the perfect book for someone who wants to get into reading the Bible but doesn't know where to start. It has a lot of Biblical insight and depth. Its simple but powerful and emotionally moving. It would literally take you about 5-7 minutes of your day to read each devotional, and it gives you something to reflect on the rest of the day. The thing about it is that it isn't just for Easter; this can be read any time someone wants a Christ-centered devotional to lift their spirits or to learn more about the Bible. I would definitely buy this again for a gift, and will be looking into other devotionals by this author. I’m very happy with this book and would definitely give it five stars, and if you are questioning your faith - Christ died for you, all you have to do is ask for clarity, and He will provide.

Excellent Easter Devotional
Format: Paperback
This thirty-day Easter Devotional is just as edifying as any writing from Paul David Tripp. Each day offers opportunity for context, reflection, application, and prayer, ever pointing more to the hope of the resurrection as the day draws near. This would be an excellent devotional to lead one's family through or to read as an individual. The book is well constructed as far as paper back goes, and a wonderful value for the quality of content. It's printing is clearly legible and well centered on each page for easy readability, and the book is comfortable to hold. The hope of the gospel shines brilliantly in this short seasonal devotional. My understanding of how old testament passages point to the fulfillment of Christ has been deepened, thus broadening my understanding of the text in daily Bible study. I highly recommend this particular book, as well as many others from this author! May it build every reader up in the full knowledge of God which bears much good fruit in love and good deeds, as we not only rejoice in what has been accomplished already, but also look forward to what God has to come upon the Savior and Judge's return. May all glory, honor, blessing and praise be to Him who has conquered the grave on behalf of the redeemed.

Excellent devotion book for any seasons
Format: Paperback
Didn't expect much when I ordered this devotional. After starting the first day, I realize this is an excellent devotional not just for Easter. Content: It covers the whole bible from Genesis all the way to Revolution. Of course, it doesn't cover every single book or every single detail in the bible. But rather than just talking about Jesus in the four gospels to His resurrection, it starts from the very beginning (Genesis) and talks about how sins entered the world and why Jesus came to Earth to save us from sin all the way to the completion of the salvation plan (Revelations). It gives a much better scope then just focusing on the events in Easter alone. Length of each devotion: There are 30 days of devotions. Each day is only a 2 page read which is good for people who just started or trying to get back to the habit of daily devotions. It doesn't take much time so it's less intimidating and there is no excuse not to do it. The structure of each devotion: There is the main bible passage, a personal sharing/message from the author as well as a biblical teaching based on the passage of the day. There there is a short reflection section and a sample prayer leading us to respond. The structure is well laid out for a concise but meaning devotion. The passage and the sharing in each day is very insightful and though provoking. Overall, this is a great devotional that I highly recommended.
